Certified
Ok, enough of the rumors. Boulevard Tank 7 is (was?) in town. It was at the Flying Saucer fest and Draught house had it, may still, not sure. Did anyone have it? How was it? I am going to make it a goal tonight to find a pint of this stuff.

Independence Brewing 5th Anniversary Tasting
Independent's Fifth Anniversary Ale. Photo snaked from Beer Town Austin.
5th Anniversary Beer - Awesome aroma! Figilicious. Made with star anise and mandarin orange peels. I guess the combination gave it that fig character.
Convict Hill Oatmeal Stout - Big, bold and roasty. Stronger than their original oatmeal stout.
Stash IPA - My favorite Indy beer at the moment. Some people have mentioned this beer has been inconsistent. I've always enjoyed it. Actually, I'd say it is one of my top TX IPAs.
We had the following in a vertical style tasting:
Jasperilla Old Ale 2008 - You've had it. Rich and raisiny.
Jasperilla Old Ale 2008 aged on light oak - I liked this best of the bunch. Buttery finish, smooth, oak not overwhelming.
Jasperilla Old Ale 2008 aged on toasted oak - Good. Too much of a good thing for me.
Thanks to Rob, Amy, Justin and Co. for having us out. Congratulations on five years!

All those events this past weekend
And I did not attend a single one. Sad.
Well I technically did visit the Flying Saucer Beer Fest. I entered the gates, saw the lines, chatted with Beer Town Austin briefly and left. We headed to Flying Saucer proper, it was packed, we were too lazy to fight the mob. We left for the Draught House. It was nice. I had the Stone Vertical Epic ale and a Sierra Nevada Harvest ale. Sofia had a Saint Arnold Christmas ale. We must be getting old.
I did not go to the Independence Fifth Anniversary either, but I did attend a beer "writers" (the quotes around writers are for me, not the actual writers in attendance. I would never call myself a beer writer. I'm barely a blogger.) tasting the night before and sampled what they were to have on offer the day of the party. More on that later.

Firkin Friday @ Draught House
Can you believe it, another reason to drink this weekend - WITH UPDATE
Ginger Man Oktoberfest, October 24 (via Liquid Austin)
and more info on Live Oak's event from the comment section (Thanks!):
Live Oak Brewing Co. and the Big Friends Network will be hosting the Texas vs. Missouri Watching Party on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the brewery.
The kick-off time for the missouri game will be decided sometime after Saturday's (Oct. 17) Texas/ou sux! game. In all likelihood, the missouri game will start at 7 p.m., after we beat OU this week (or at 2:30 p.m. should the unthinkable happen). We will be set up at 2:30 p.m. to watch all day until the Texas game at 7 p.m.. Other unfortunate possibilities shall not be further discussed on this forum. Consult your local listings.
As usual, there will be lots of tasty treats from Smokey Denmark and Live Oak beer. We'll have the game on a couple of projectors and it should be a good time.
Be sure to bring a chair and whatever charms and idols are your usual accoutrements. And dont forget to bring a donation for the Big Friends Network. They do good work and their email missive follows.
UPDATE: Yes, it is a fundraiser for Big Friends, and it's a "pass-the-hat" kind of deal. I'm guessing that when the email initially went out the time of the game was still unknown (it could have been at 2:30 or at 7pm). Now that we know the game is on for 7pm, we'd appreciate if it folks would show up 6-6:30-ish.

More Stuff for this Weekend
Thanks to these updates from the readers:
- Anonymous informs us of Oktoberfest in Waterloo Park. This sounds like more of a music deal, but they will have a "microbrew beer garden."
- Tim reports that Live Oak may be having a "thing" on Saturday. You would never know from their website, good god is that thing horrible. They still have Liberation Ale up there.

Beer weekend from Hell....or Heaven, you decide
This weekend there will be a perfect storm of beer events going on in Austin. Well maybe it is not that crazy. It's only three, but they are a big three. We will start from the north and move south.
First, NXNW Oktoberfest. I have heard this is a fun event. It's both Saturday and Sunday, so it will be the easiest party to hit up. More info here.
Next up, Flying Saucer's Fall Fest. This one seems to be the "can't miss" event of the weekend. It is only on Saturday, so plan accordingly. More info here. Also, BTA has an Over a Pint with the Flying Saucer guys for even more information.
Finally, we have Independence's Fifth Anniversary party. They are pulling out the big guns. I am looking forward to trying their Fifth Anniversary ale as well. More info here.
No matter where you live in Austin, something is happening near you this weekend. No excuses.
I may be missing something. Let me know if so...

Brooklyn On Sale!
More Brooklyn Brewery info. From BA Forums:
To pay homage to Garrett Oliver being in Austin this weekend:Damn, that is a deal! I won't be here this weekend. Anyone want to volunteer to pickup me up some??
On Friday and Saturday (10/16 and 10/17)
Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout - $5.99
Brooklyn Local 1 and Local 2 - $6.99+
This is more what I was referring to when I mentioned "your wallets would appreciate it", I was not attempting to sling any mud at The Whip-In.
Good at all Spec's in Austin, Round Rock and Bastrop...
GO in ATX
Ole Garrett Oliver is in town this week. Basically doing the "beer and food" thing. Check him out. I can't. I'll be in Jacksonville, FL, most likely drinking Corona Light with my cousins.
See a complete schedule and interview at Liquid Austin.

World Wide Webbage
Months ago I started filling out the Examiner application to become the "Austin Craft Beer Examiner." But like most things in my life, I blew it off for other frivolities. Or I should say I put it off, planning to eventually fill it out. No need. Debbie Cerda (aka @snax) has filled the examiner gap. I would have been a half-ass examiner anyway. And Debbie seems to be taking off quite well.
Also in the beer-interweb-Austin world. Daniel Smith has started a new Food and Beer blog.

Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout
It's in town. I think half of all the BCSs I've drank over the years have been in ice cream floats. Try it. It's good.

Draught House, 41 Years Old
November 7. Bummer, I won't be in town. Not sure of the details. I've heard rumors they want to make it cask heavy.

Seriously
This beer is so good. Maybe I am biased, living in Austin. But I think this is easily Texas's best beer right now.

P.S. Green Flash has one of the worst websites I've ever seen.
