Chili Cookoff @ Flying Saucer

Think a vegetarian chili would go over well? I'm doing it (probably not).

Saint Arnold DR #11

It's an imperial IPA, not a wheatwine as had been rumored. Oh well, I'm not a fan of wheatwines anyway. Maybe less intriguing, but tastier. Bring on April.

OMG + 24 Diner

Ommegang should release a beer called OMG! Or would that be totally lame. Yeah, probably. It could be a blend of their Chocolate Indulgence and Three Philosophers. Ommegang, if you are reading this, feel free to use this idea. You have my blessing.

For now, at least, we can still enjoy Ommegang's normal lineup of awesome beers. Drink them with some awesome food too on March 2 @ 24 Diner for $55. Also, 24 Diner's got a fancy new website.

Big Flat

It's been a week since my big purchase. It was shitty. But it wasn't that bad. Crisp, gulpable, everything you want in a cheap, shit beer. Not as much body as a Lonestar, but almost half the price. Even though I am on a beer budget, I probably won't be buying anymore, anytime soon. I say that now . . .

Draught House is Killin' Me

As I said before, I'm on a beer budget right now. Then Draught House goes twitter crazy and puts these beers on:

SA Moveable Yeast: Farmer Brown's Ale

From Saint Arnold:
We have been eagerly awaiting the kegging of Farmer Brown's Ale, the next in our Moveable Yeast series. It was supposed to be kegged last week and released this week. The beer did not want to cooperate and we did not want to rush the beer. Beer always tells you when it is ready. In this case we were waiting for the yeast to drop out. But now it is ready!

Farmer Brown's Ale is our regular Brown Ale fermented with saison yeast. The result is a beer with pleasantly spicy and earthy notes, nice fruitiness, a dry finish but with a nice malt flavor to stand up to all of the yeast notes. We thought it was such an interesting beer when we test brewed it that we moved it up in the order of Moveable Yeast releases.

It will start showing up on draft in accounts next week, although some accounts will wait considerably longer before tapping their kegs. It will also be available on our weekday tours at the brewery starting this coming Monday.

Euro Beer #5 - Messrs Maguire

In fall of 2007 my wife and I traveled through Europe for 10 weeks. We ate a lot of food and drank of a lot of beer (and wine). Not enough food, not enough beer. Almost done with Dublin:

Euro Beer #5 - Messrs Maguire

This is a good example of when we did not drink enough beer. I had one pint and Sofia had a half pint. The short one is the Haus Pils. My big one is a stout. Nothing great, but good enough to have another, which we did not. Actually, the reason we did not get another one was because we had a bus to catch. The bus was taking us to boat that would tug over to England, then back on the bus, on to London. It was an all night ordeal. It was interesting, but next time I'm flying. Also, next time I am at Messrs Maguire I am having more than one pint.

Whole Foods: Bar Lamar and Growlers

While I was at home drinking Big Flats and getting stitches this weekend, Steve from All Good Beer was out doing real work and finding out about Whole Food's (downtown) new Bar Lamar. They will offer six wines and six beers. Growlers too! Very cool.

NXNW Brewer's Dinner - Feb. 23

(512) Black IPA

Just saw this come across the Beernews.org wire....

Maui Wowee Lousy

I've read it on blogs. I've read it on BeerAdvocate. I've heard some dudes talk about it around a bonfire. Could it be true, Maui coming to Texas? Sure, I'll believe it.

The Dream is Alive

What does this have to do with beer, wellllll, not really that much. Portland I guess.

Friday, February 4, 2011

Whatever.

Am I just bitter?

ATX Snow Day

We get em once a year pretty much.

Currently drinking this, eating quesadillas and dancing to Belle and Sebastian in my kitchen. What's wrong with me? Snow's gone to my head.

Euro Beer #4 - Mulligan's

In fall of 2007 my wife and I traveled through Europe for 10 weeks. We ate a lot of food and drank of a lot of beer (and wine). Not enough food, not enough beer. Working our way through Dublin still:

Our host and friend told us the best pint in Dublin is at Mulligan's. Good enough for us. I searched later and this seems to be a popular choice for the best pint. I think it's my friend's spot just because it's only a few blocks from his flat. Still, great pint(s).

Mulligan's is a killer pub. It reminds me a lot of Bull McCabe's here in Austin. Go to Bull McCabe's. It's on Red River.

For more euro foodage and drinkage, go here.

CBR 169 = Texas!

For some reason I can not listen to Craft Beer Radio at work. I can look and peruse almost any site on the world wide web, but CBR is blocked (Pandora too). Annoying. I've been listening to CBR since 2005. They are old school, not like these new hot twitterheads. Anyway, back in November they had an entire show of TX beers. Go listen to it now.
