Abita S.O.S.

Just picked up a bottle of this beer at Central Market, around $5.50 I think. This "Charitable Pilsner" is described this way: This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma.

They have a whole website devoted to this beer and its cause. Ah, beer and charity . . . a match made in heaven.

Spec's Spring Beer Fest

Remember last week's nonsense about a beer event at Spec's on Brodie Lane.

Well it actually turned out better than I was expecting. It was no fest, but still, they had a lot of beers to try for free. AND a free glass.

And it was not all Abita. Actually they only had one beer there, their Strawberry seltzer, I mean Lager. Nothing spectacular, but for free, who can complain. I tried the Deschutes Inversion IPA. I was unimpressed. The Red Chair is much better in my opinion.

Now for pictures of the event. Not really, what site do you think you are reading, BTA?:

List, part 1.

List, part 2.

These are my notes. Professional.

This is the pencil I used to write those notes. Free glass and a free pencil.

How Not to Throw a Beer Event

UPDATE via twitter:
20 different beers & food vendors too -- all free! Enjoy.

This morning Abita tweeted (and was fwd to me by Shane):
Beerfest tonite (5-8p) at Spec's in Austin, 4978 W US290 Service Rd. -- Abita Beer will be there!
And then on Spec's event page they put up this very helpful and useful info:

Cost? Who knows....

It's on my bike route home, so I'll most likely stop by to see what the deal is. You?
