Ahhhhh Shit

An abysmal failure:

I was able to snag a bottle of Abyss at the downtown Whole Foods during my lunch break. Dropped my bag and BOOM! Shit. There were only four left, it would have been wrong to go in and try to buy another bottle. Idiot.

There still might be some stout pouring down the Austin streets. Bring a sponge.

Widmer W'11

I know we are all in a pleasent mood sippin on our newest TX conquest:

But now there is this:

Sure, it may not end up being Abyss level, but I have enjoyed the last two years of Widmer's Reserve Series. It's on now at Draught House for sure. I'm guessing we will start seeing bottles soon.

Mother's Mirror

To celebrate Mother's Day yesterday with my wife we opened a 2009 bottle of Mirror Mirror. It was really good, maybe amazing. That is all. Carry on.

Spec's Spring Beer Fest

Remember last week's nonsense about a beer event at Spec's on Brodie Lane.

Well it actually turned out better than I was expecting. It was no fest, but still, they had a lot of beers to try for free. AND a free glass.

And it was not all Abita. Actually they only had one beer there, their Strawberry seltzer, I mean Lager. Nothing spectacular, but for free, who can complain. I tried the Deschutes Inversion IPA. I was unimpressed. The Red Chair is much better in my opinion.

Now for pictures of the event. Not really, what site do you think you are reading, BTA?:

List, part 1.

List, part 2.

These are my notes. Professional.

This is the pencil I used to write those notes. Free glass and a free pencil.

Weekending

Friday night, Sofia we HAVE to go to Draught House tonight to get some Jubel. It's a "once-a-decade" kinda beer! Come on, we can stop by with your parents before dinner. They agreed, but were not too happy, as you can see in the above photo.

It was a dream.

Saturday was the Beer Connoisseur/Independence Brewing party. We arrived early and left too early. It was fun. Beers were had from Lovejoys, NXNW and of course Independence. The highlights were the Stash IPA , NXNW Black Ale and the NXNW IPA. There were some breweries that were supposed to be there that were not, not that big of deal. We ran the gauntlet of beer and left for dinner.

And now for three photos of the event that you could not have lived without:

Thanks to Independence and Beer Connoisseur.

Deschutes Jubel 2010 @ Draught House

Pouring now. Sofia, pick me up in three hours...

Info from Deschutes:
Jubel 2010 is a deeply dynamic presentation of the flavors found in our festive winter seasonal, Jubelale. Available on tap around the holidays at our pubs as Super Jubel, February 2010 marks only the second time we have ever bottled this immortal libation. As some of you may remember, the first and only other time this special brew was bottled was to celebrate the new millennium as Jubel 2000.

Sunday, December 27, 2009

So I am drinking a 2009 Deschutes Abyss. It is good. Realllllllly good. And it is reminding me of another beer. Something local(ish).

That is right. As I drink the Abyss, SS Buried Hatchet keeps poppin into my mind. I've only had Buried Hatchet on draught, but the beers seem very "alike." I can't wait till BH comes out in cans. I plan on saving at least one to compare to my other bottle of Abyss next Thanksgiving.

Go Texas!

Rumors

I heard someone yammering on about Deschutes last night. They said Deschutes IPA and Stout will be here soon. I believe 'em. Don't you? Well, I want to.

Monday, April 6, 2009

Another beautiful day, another beautiful beer.

I skipped the monthly Austin BA tasting for I had projects around the homestead to complete. Never fear, I took a time out to have a tasting of my own though.
