Live Oak Roggenbier Release Party @ Draught House

Looking for something else to do tomorrow night besides the Saint Arnold cask? Well here you go. From Live Oak's FB page:
Announcing: Roggenbier Release Party! Wednesday, June 8, Draught House on Medical Parkway (where it's pint glass night - www.draughthouse.com), 5:30 - 8:30.

////

Roggenbier is mashed with a relatively high amount (25%) of German rye malt. It's characterized by a slight refreshing tartness, low hop bitterness, and a very slight fruitiness from the special German ale yeast. Roggenbier is extremely drinkable and is a great beer for the summer. 4.8% abv.

De Proef Brouwerij and Terrapin Monstre Rouge Keg

Damn, that is a hideous label. But who cares about the label when you are drinking from a keg. Draught House has (had?) one and it was tapped on Saturday. It was the only keg of the stuff sold in Texas, so you better get there today to try some.

New Belgium Take Over Draught House

This from Draught House Josh:
The phrase of the moment is "tap takeover" and who are we to resist. This Wednesday (the 27th) we will be taken over by New Belgium and be pouring eight of their beers.

We are happy to have both Love, the unblended base for La Folie and other sour beers, and Super Cru, their 20th anniversary ale, to serve.

In addition, we will be pouring Le Terroir, La Folie, Fat Tire, Mothership Wit, Ranger IPA and Somersault, their new spring seasonal.

PLUS, with any beer purchase, a globe glass is FREE.

But that's not all. We will also have cheese samples gratis with some (perhaps all) of the beers. And to top it all off Miss Lauren Salazar, sensory analyst extraordinaire, will grace us with her presence.

Draught House Firkin Fridays On the Horizon

Draught House will be tapping a Moylan's Hopsickle cask this afternoon. Sounds fantastic. They also have casks of Great Divide Espresso Oak Aged Yeti and Southern Star (Creme Brulee) Buried Hatchet Stout coming down the pipeline.

Also, while you are there you can grab an Independence Rood and/or Jester King (Mikkeller) Drink 'in the Sunbelt.

But now there is this:

Sure, it may not end up being Abyss level, but I have enjoyed the last two years of Widmer's Reserve Series. It's on now at Draught House for sure. I'm guessing we will start seeing bottles soon.

BTA/CA Pub Crawl and Some Beer Olympics Too

Austin Beer Week was great. Can't wait till next year. If you don't count Saturday, this was one of the kickoff events for ABW. Our meet up point was Flying Saucer.

Bikes.

We had a great turnout. I'd say there were 50-55 in attendance. We did not really all ride together, some would leave a bar early to get to the next spot and some would hang back. Next time I want a massive movement of bikers. My brother said we should have been more nazi-like in keeping the group together. But that's not really my style.

Also, when we got to Flying Saucer there were two other bike pub crawls meeting there at the same time. WTF. I think a few of our riders ended up with those groups.

Next - Draught House.

Beer Olympics were in full effect.

Matt got in on the action. I don't think he did very well.

I did worse. I bet Chris that I could throw a keg further. Worst bet ever.

Santiago is going to sweep all the events next year.

Then Billy's on Burnet.

Thunderbird.

I ordered a Lone Star here. Don't hate. It was only a dollar and it's basically water. Perfect for a bike pub crawl.

Our last stop, the recently opened Black Star Co-op.

No house beer yet, but plenty of good local and not-local stuff to hold you over.

Fries were great. The veggie burger needs a retooling. It fell apart as I was eating it.

Just waiting for some action.

Thanks to everyone that came out. I hope you all had fun. I did.

Draught House is 42

This is the Draught House anniversary party. It was a week after the Flying Saucer fest, but you knew that, right? For me it was the kick-off event for Austin Beer Week.

Crowd was thick.

Oh look, another crowd shot. Wow. I see some Austin Beerlebrities in this one.

Let's see. We sampled these:

1. Green Flash Imperial IPA - Nice
2. Jester King Commercial Suicide - Carbonation was not there and most knew it, but flavor was decent. (NOTE: I had this later in the week at the brewery's acoustic night and it was MUCH improved. Great carbonation. Great flavor. Both Sofia and I really enjoyed it. Like a porter, but with less alcohol punch.)
3. Widmer Bros Bourbon Brrr - Much better than I expected. So much tasty brrrrrrrbon flavor.
4. Ommegang Cup ‘O’ Kyndnes - Very nice. Sofia enjoyed it, but thought it a little heavy.
5. New Belgium Imperial Berliner Weisse - Good.
6. Independece Braggot - this is only my second or third braggot. I really enjoyed it. Not too sweet. Honey very apparent. Nice. I wanted more.

So pissed that I missed the Bitches Brew. Oh well. Otherwise, good times:
