Circle Brewing Bar Crawl

What's a bar crawl? I'm guessing it's like a pub crawl. I kid, it just sounds funny to say "bar crawl." Circle is doing one. It starts at 3rd and Nueces at 4pm on May 14th.

Per TABC, we can't tell you which bar we're starting at or what bars we are planning on crawling to. We're thinking 5-7 stops, ending on Rainey St, so there is going to be some serious crawling involved.

Sidenote: No one likes to wait to get a brew, so bring cash, it'll speed up the ordering at each spot.

Saint Arnold Pub Crawl #3: April 9 DETAILS

Saint Arnold Afternoon Austin Pub Crawl, this Saturday, April 9

We will utilize our "open house" schedule for the first 3 stops. This means that we will be signing tickets at all of the first three stops for three hours so you can enjoy a beer at each one with only a quarter of the people crammed into each establishment. You will get your ticket at whichever stop you decide to visit first. But, VERY IMPORTANT, we will only be handing out the tickets between 3 PM and 4 PM. Thus, you still need to start between 3 and 4. Then, at 6 PM, everybody will gather at one final stop and that is where we will award the prize.

The prize for making all four stops will be our newly designed Pub Crawl pint glass! And as always, designated drivers are both eligible for the award and encouraged to attend. Also, some locations will have a limited amount of Divine Reserve No. 11!

So here is the layout and our vague directions:

The first three stops:
A little bar full of LOVE and JOY! Think Neches river.
A 'SKINNY' little ballroom on San Jacinto/2nd St;
Is it GINGER or Maryann?

The final stop:
At 6:00 we'll head west to a DIVINE place near Rio Grande, where we will have beer upstairs and downstairs.

Remember that cash is helpful, be kind to your waitstaff, and always, always appear in public enjoying a Saint Arnold. We hold those that arrange for transportation to and from or use designated drivers in the highest regard!

Come out and join us as we crawl through campus the Sunday after finals!

BTA/CA Pub Crawl and Some Beer Olympics Too

Austin Beer Week was great. Can't wait till next year. If you don't count Saturday, this was one of the kickoff events for ABW. Our meet up point was Flying Saucer.



Bikes.



We had a great turnout. I'd say there were 50-55 in attendance. We did not really all ride together, some would leave a bar early to get to the next spot and some would hang back. Next time I want a massive movement of bikers. My brother said we should have been more nazi-like in keeping the group together. But that's not really my style.

Also, when we got to Flying Saucer there were two other bike pub crawls meeting there at the same time. WTF. I think a few of our riders ended up with those groups.



Next - Draught House.





Beer Olympics were in full effect.



Matt got in on the action. I don't think he did very well.



I did worse. I bet Chris that I could throw a keg further. Worst bet ever.



Santiago is going to sweep all the events next year.



Then Billy's on Burnet.

I ordered a Lone Star here. Don't hate. It was only a dollar and it's basically water. Perfect for a bike pub crawl.



Our last stop, the recently opened Black Star Co-op.



No house beer yet, but plenty of good local and not-local stuff to hold you over.



Fries were great. The veggie burger needs a retooling. It fell apart as I was eating it.



Just waiting for some action.

Saint Arnold 2nd Austin Pub Crawl Recapish

Last Saturday was not a good day to be walking around downtown Austin in jeans. It was bloody hot, but that is just what I did. I had to. I only own one pair of "nice" shorts and I got bleach on them. Now I have none. So jeans it was. Ohhh, the exciting life of a rich and famous beer blogger.

Anyway, the pub crawl lineup was as follows: Texas Embassy, Sidebar, Liberty and Shangri'la. Four bars I had never been to. I was surprised by Shangri'la, it was a cool bar with a huge outdoor area. I also liked Liberty. It reminded me of some of the bars I frequented in Brooklyn. All in all, just as with the last pub crawl, it was a lot of fun, hot, but fun. Next time I am wearing shorts, bleached or not.



This is the only photo I took. It was not one of the stops, but a mandatory food stop for my pub crawl companions. I took the photo to show my wife. Carry on.

Saint Arnold Pub Crawl Returns to Austin

Again with the crawling. From the latest Saint Arnold newsletter:

We will be having an Austin Pub Crawl on Saturday, June 19 so if you are looking for an excuse to visit Austin, you may want to mark you calendars.

The last one was fun and I bet this one will be better. Who wants to bet me? Come on.

Saint Arnold Austin Pub Crawl Wrap Up.

First stop: Zax Pints and Plates. Place was packed. The wife, baby and I worked our way to the bar. Now before I go on let me say a little something about bringing a baby/kid to a bar. I am all for it. Obviously, there are a few caveats. These are mine:

1. No smoke
2. Not too loud
3. Before 10pm (although the 9 o'clock hour is pushing it)
4. The baby/kid is not screamin or running around like mad. This sucks for other patrons, but more so for the baby/kid, they don't wanna be there.

Movin' on. Grabbed a ticket from Lenny. Got to the bar. Unfortunately, it was too packed to see what beers were on tap on the other end of the room. Fortunately, Chris was on that end of the bar. A quick call to him and our decision was made (that Beer Town Austin is so helpful). We were bad crawlers and ordered NB Ranger IPAs (Sofia did not want a Winter Stout, I blame her). Chatted with Beer Town Austin, Josh and Sarah.

Second stop: Ginger Man. Packed as well. We waited in line to get in, apparently they were over capacity. Once in I had a SA Lawnmower, which was not as good as I remembered it, but still decent. Sofia had a Brooklyn Brown ale, a beer she had not had since living in Brooklyn. She was giddy. At this point we met up with Matt, Matt's Dad and Michael.

Third stop: After putting Sofia and the baby in the car to head home, I waved goodbye and walked over to Ghost Room. This place is depressing, barely a shadow remains of the the old Ginger Man. And they were out of Saint Arnold beer. Oh well, let's move to Little Woodrows.

Fourth stop: Little Woodrow's. We missed out on the official Saint Arnold Austin Pub Crawl pint glass, but got a normal one, which was fine. After sharing one last beer we walked back across the river to our cars and bid each other a good night.

Overall: Fun. I would have thrown in Opal Divine's into the pub crawl and taken out Ghost Room. I suspect that the addition of Ghost Room had something to do with Ginger Man.

Saint Arnold 1st ever Austin Pub Crawl

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 6pm-10pm, Saint Arnold 1st ever Austin Pub Crawl!!
You asked for it, and here it is! There will be a total of four stops. At the first stop, you will get a punch card. We will be punching cards at all of the stops But, VERY IMPORTANT, we will only be handing out the cards at the first stop, between 6pm and 7pm. Thus, you still need to start between 6 and 7. Then, at 9 pm, everybody will gather at the final stop and that is where we will award prizes. The prize for making all four stops will be our way cool, special pub crawl pint glass. We will have a limited supply. And as always, designated drivers are both eligible for the award and encouraged to attend! So here is the layout:

The FIRST location between 6-7pm, near the intersection of Riverside and Barton Springs. Hint: you can get Pints and Plates there! (if you park here all night, please park in the Hooter's lot across the street-it's OK!)

The SECOND stop will be 7-8pm, just a short hike across the river to Lavaca near 4th. Hint: not MaryAnn, but Ginger!

The THIRD bar will be 8-9pm, a few steps down 4th street. Hint: It's a 'ghostly' room for sure!

And the FOURTH stop will be 9-10pm, near 6th and Nueces. Hint: It's a 'little' place made of 'wood'

Now, for our annual tips for maximum enjoyment:

1. PRECOATING: Try to eat something before commencing the crawl. Our first stop is good for this!

2. PACING: Too many Saint Arnolds at the first stop is a critical strategic mistake. This is known as "Sprinting Too Early" which is not advisable in this, a distance event. Can have negative repercussions later.

3. MANNERS: Be patient with bar staff. Remember, lots of people will be descending upon a poor crew. They will be working as fast as they can. Also, it is considered very good manners to tip well everywhere you go. This creates good “beerma”.

4. CASH: Bring cash! This pleases the bar staff and the people standing behind you. Cash is fast. Credit cards are slow. They cannot run tabs for all you people.

5. BUDDY SYSTEM: Make sure that you are always in contact with a couple of people you know. One of you is bound to notice that the pack is starting to move on to the next stop. This prevents the disoriented feeling of looking around an empty bar and realizing that the only three people still in there are guzzling some inferior malted beverage and may be related to the missing link.

6. MAKE NEW FRIENDS: As everyone on this crawl will be intelligent and good looking, this is an excellent place to meet new people. Also, you will note that some people become better looking as the crawl wears on. If this occurs, be sure to consult your Buddy System partner.

7. DESIGNATED DRIVER: Yes, we encourage this strongly. You never know when you might decide to run for president. And even the designated drivers on the crawl qualify for the prize. While pregnant wives are perfect for this role, it is known to be poor judgment for a husband to claim that this is the best part of her being pregnant. See "Mood Swings."

8. ENJOY ST. ARNOLD BEERS: It is in poor taste to be seen quaffing anything else. Ever. See "Curse of Saint Arnold."
