NXNW, Cask Night . . . 1000th Batch

NXNW does not get a lot of play on this blog. For that I am sorry. I've always lived too far, now I live really far . . . way far. I wish they could switch places with BJs.

For their 1000th batch of beer they brewed a belgian tripel. I must have some.

I think they are having it for their cask night this Monday. Or maybe they are just having their
Py Jingo Pale Ale. I am really not sure. Either way, I am sure it will be good.

They also have this coming up:
Brewers' Dinner at NXNW on August 4th at 7pm. 5 courses paired with 5 beers. Includes take home logo pint glass and tour of the Brewery. The dinner features Ty and Kevin's Batch 1000 Belgian Style Tripel and Chef George's Porcini Powder Dusted Venison. ($49) Call 512-467-6969 to make reservations.

Weekending

Friday night, Sofia we HAVE to go to Draught House tonight to get some Jubel. It's a "once-a-decade" kinda beer! Come on, we can stop by with your parents before dinner. They agreed, but were not too happy, as you can see in the above photo.

It was a dream.

Saturday was the Beer Connoisseur/Independence Brewing party. We arrived early and left too early. It was fun. Beers were had from Lovejoys, NXNW and of course Independence. The highlights were the Stash IPA , NXNW Black Ale and the NXNW IPA. There were some breweries that were supposed to be there that were not, not that big of deal. We ran the gauntlet of beer and left for dinner.

And now for three photos of the event that you could not have lived without:

Thanks to Independence and Beer Connoisseur.

South Austin Beer Search #1

We recently moved down to South Austin. The last two years we've lived up north, a hop, skip and a jump from Draught House and Flying Saucer. And a quick zip downtown to Gingerman. When I say south, I mean wayyy south. I was worried. Worried good beer would be hard to find. And that is what this little series is about. Our first exploration was to Red's Porch.

It was Saturday night and the place was jammed packed. They had a pretty decent tap selection. Something for everyone - even beer dorks.

NXNW Pale Ale?? They had it. Someone explain to me why they are allowed to have this. I am not complaining, I just thought this was not possible, beer-law-wise.

My Yakima Twilight. We also had a Green Flash IPA and Brooklyn Lager.

The food was pretty good too. My Border Burger was spicy as hell. Sofia liked her Chicken Fried Chicken, but her sides were soaked in garlic.

We will be back.

Been to NXNW Lately?

You have not. Well, Lee gives you three good reasons to stop by. So no excuses.

One reason NOT to go for me: It is now a 32 mile round trip from our apartment. It does sound tempting though. Maybe a trip to Crate and Barrel with the fam is in order.

Beer weekend from Hell....or Heaven, you decide

This weekend there will be a perfect storm of beer events going on in Austin. Well maybe it is not that crazy. It's only three, but they are a big three. We will start from the north and move south.

First, NXNW Oktoberfest. I have heard this is a fun event. It's both Saturday and Sunday, so it will be the easiest party to hit up. More info here.

Next up, Flying Saucer's Fall Fest. This one seems to be the "can't miss" event of the weekend. It is only on Saturday, so plan accordingly. More info here. Also, BTA has an Over a Pint with the Flying Saucer guys for even more information.

Finally, we have Independence's Fifth Anniversary party. They are pulling out the big guns. I am looking forward to trying their Fifth Anniversary ale as well. More info here.

No matter where you live in Austin, something is happening near you this weekend. No excuses.

I may be missing something. Let me know if so...

NXNW Barton Kriek

NXNW Barton Kriek

NXNW 10th Anniversary DIPA

This is NXNW's 10th Anniversary double IPA. I've heard it contains 10 hop varieties. It's got a grassy wet hop aroma and flavor. Hardly bitter. Good balance. Worthy anniversary brew.

NXNW Benefit

From franktex:

The fiance of NXNW head brewer Ty Phelps, Ericka Tornquist, suffered a brain hemorrhage and stroke on April 15th, two weeks before their planned wedding. After emergency surgery, a couple wks, in ICU, she is now going through neurological rehabilitaion.

There is a benefit/silent auction at NXNW on May 24th from 5-9 PM for her, and I'm guessing there will be some pretty cool beer swag available, as well as other goodies, so please come by and help out one of Austin's brewing community.

Patty

Sigh....

Stick with a local stout, please. Uncle Billy's has one, two actually if you count Independence's Oatmeal Stout. NXNW last week had two, surely they will have their dry stout on tonight. Draught House...not sure...most likely though.

Live-ish Blog from an Actual Bar

A rare occurrence these days. I am sitting at a bar (and typing this, for some unknown reason). But there is a reason. Two reasons actually. King Kona Stout and Barton Kriek from North by Northwest. KKStout is a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout made with Kona coffee, a lot to go into one beer. The other, Barton Kriek, is a lambic, sour and all. Both beers are worth trying and available now.
