Blog Talk 2 Real Talk (Bitch Beer Blog-a-Thon)

There are bad blogs. There are good blogs. I was gonna talk a load of shit about some local beer blog, but why bother? I ain't gonna be a bully, even though at this point they are probably considered a bigger blog. Can a lesser, wimpier entity be considered a bully? Maybe I'd be a Robin Hood of sorts, blogwise—stealing from the content rich, to give to the content deprived. Only one problem—said blog sucks, nothing good to steal and share with you, my poor readers. So, instead, let me spread some love for a far less sucky blog. Love is what craft beer, or should I say Craft Beer, is all about, right? Who cares if the beer tastes like swill, or their marketing blows, or their taproom is boring . . . they are really good people. Everything is awesome! Anyway, Bitch Beer is having a bitch-a-thon, I mean a blog-a-thon. Don't look at me, I have no idea what a blog-a-thon is.

Basically, they need money for Europe. I'd poo poo on this idea too, but somebody has to go to Europe and it's not gonna be me this year. I'll be there from 10pm-1am. I'll be the one not wearing a fedora. Maybe they will let me do some guest blogging.

Small Gloat

Austin Monthly included Austin Beer Guide in October's HOT LIST! I think it's fitting we are in the "Beauty" Issue. I've never seen a more beautiful group of dudes.

More real blogging later. I promise.

Wikio Beer Blog Rankings - May

I am still not sure what these rankings mean (happy idiot). I don't know who wikio is or what they do. Craft Austin got into the top 30 for May, so I guess that is good. Who wants to celebrate? Maybe I should start a ranking systems for blogs. It would be easy. Top three would always be Craft Austin, My Last Pint and Austin Beer Guide. I'd even throw BTA a bone and put them in the top 25 or so.

Beer River

Brookston put this up last night. Why are they filming this? Did they know for sure it was going to fall? I'm guessing they tried to right the problem before filming, otherwise I call shenanigans.

What Happened Yesterday

I usually try to at least post one thing per day. Must have been busy, I didn't even post the easiest of posts - a reminder. Ok, here it is:

A Pint a Day, Not Six

I can't wait for the news that drinking a six pack is good for you. We are all waiting for that, right? But this is a good start.

I hate beer writers

Dan Shelton, of Shelton Brothers fame, is sure to bunch some beer panties with this:

"I hate beer writers," he said. "You can ask them; they hate me, too. They call me arrogant and opinionated. They think I'm a real asshole. But, hey, what can you expect? I was trained as a lawyer."

By doing little more than parroting the marketing-speak of advertising companies, Dan believes American beer writers are largely to blame for an industry and drinking public that's more taken with gimmickry than artistry. "The attitude seems to be, 'It's all good.' No one's willing to criticize a beer they don't like, and when I do, I'm told I'm just trying to sell the beers I import. I've had fights with beer reviewers who want to believe that you can't be objective about beer. It's all subjective, they say. You like what you like."

If that were true, he pointed out, why would anyone bother to review anything? If there wasn't consensus in the wine world, say, how could a wine dealer get away with selling a $100 bottle of wine? "If everything's great, then nothing's great," he said.

Apparently, Not the Best Cocktail/Beverage Blog in Austin

No not us. Thank god not these guys. The winner was Tipsy Texan. Congratulations!

How do I close a blog? Dump this, I'm going to start a scene blog. Actually, at the party I did have someone ask me if they could take over my blog as an arts and crafts blog. That sounds interesting.

Oh November.....Beer Flashback #3

Wow, October was great. Beer blogging was easy last month. So much good shit going down. Now, nothing. November is wrecking me. I might have to bring back Thirsty Thursday.

For now, let me hit you with another Beer Flashback. This one is from my "personal" blog, back before I had a beer blog. You may see strangers, names and references you won't recognize. For that, I apologize. This is from February 2007:

On of our main objectives while in Lancaster was to visit Stoudt's Brewery. Chris was all over it.

Even the girls came. Lucky them.

We've arrived.

Whoops, wrong entrance.

Ok, there we go.

Waiting for the tour to begin.

Chotchkies.

They had some old car.

The tour was more like a sermon of beer, given by the holy pope of brew: Ed Stoudt. He is one of my heros.

We had beers and appetizers afterward.

Later we went to the mall. It gave me a headache.

Andy Crouch Hates Beer Bloggers

Not really, but if I were Fox News that would be the headline for this entry. Check out Andy's great post about beer blogging. You know I don't take myself, nor my blog, too seriously. This ain't no revolution. This is beer.

I do think beer blogs have a valid, and dare I say important, place in beer though. Beer rating blogs are a dime a dozen. Nation wide beer blogs...also a dime a dozen. But the local beer blog I think is a vital and helpful resource, not to pat myself on the back. Also, (Warning: I am going to pat myself on the back again) blogs or sites like My Last Pint and Pints and Panels are fun (I guess not so important, but still) because of their uniqueness and creativity.

Wow, what a pat. I'm awesome. But that is what blogs are all about, right? ME and I.

Ok, gotta go work on my brand.
