Remember: (512) 2nd ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE

See you this weekend?
I am gonna try to swing by for the festivities, if we are not too busy with chores and dips in the "agua" which my 15 month old is obsessed with now. I have not had the (512) Two yet, but many people have. Mostly good things have been said, so obviously I am looking forward to my first pint of the stuff.

GA(ustin)BF Recap

Saturday was hot, hella hot. Thank god for an indoor festival. I'll never understand Austinites' obsession with outdoor festivals. They don't care, it could be 110 and they want to hop from booth to booth in the sun. Nuts. Give me the AC from June to September please. The line wrapped around the building, this was the worst part.

Inside it was packed. Which brings us to most people's complaints about the fest. Venue too small/too many people/long lines. I guess I agree. But the lines moved fast and I was able to get plenty of beer in the four hours. Beertown Austin's table was constantly packed and they did not even have beer. They did raffle some cool stuff though. Craft Austin gave nothing away. Sue me.

Check out Jester King's new mascot. Love it.

New signage and everything from these guys. I told them to get out of there and start brewing already. We are thirsty.

They also complained about the beer, the selection and the fact that most of it was served from bottles. Ok, sure I wanted more beer selections then you could get at your local HEB....sure I wanted draught beer. But we knew it was only bottles. We knew what breweries were going to be there, but they were vague about what beers the breweries would bring. The two best beer of the night came from (512) Brewing - 2009 (512) One and Double Pecan Porter. I also enjoyed a bunch of the Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. These beers and a few others made the evening.

FS Randal Tonight

Also, as seen on BA:
Breaking out the Randall tonight and I'm intrigued by this one, (512) IPA infused with fresh Basil Leaves. It has to work better than the Allagash White/Sweet Woodruff Combo. Come check it out, Randall goes on stage at 6pm and should play for a couple hours.

(512) Whiskey Barrel Aged Double Pecan Porter!

Photo: (512)

From (512) Brewing:
Our first barrel project is in kegs and on it’s way to beer bars around Austin. This is a bigger, bolder version of our mainstay Pecan Porter, with a richer finish. Two months on recently emptied Jack Daniels select barrels imparted a wonderful vanilla character from the oak and a pleasant amount of whiskey nose and flavor. All in all, I’m really proud of the hard work and effort put into this beer. Our first attempt at brewing it and our first attempt at managing barrels has paid off for everyone! Seek out this beer, but don’t put it off. There is a very limited number of kegs available and it might go fast….

Seriously

This beer is so good. Maybe I am biased, living in Austin. But I think this is easily Texas's best beer right now.

Beer Town Austin: Clementine

BTA visits Clementine for a beer tasting and won't stop bragging about it.

Speaking of Austin beerish events that I missed: How was the (512) Brewing First Anniversary party? I had family in town and did not feel like draggin them down south to stand in the sun.

Reminder

Don't forget.

They had (512) One at Flying Saucer last night. I did not have any. Being the crack beernalist that I am, I found out about this at 10:30 last night. Sleepin' on the job.

Not beer (entirely) but still tasty

Good news regarding (512) Anniversary Party. Not only will they be releasing their anniversary beer, which I have high hopes for and unlike Shiner, I am almost certain it will fulfill my expectations ... but Jennie, aka PookieSoup, of MisoHungry Makes it with Moonshine will also be there. With delicious baked goods. Per her comment: (512) Pecan Porter Drunken German Chocolate cupcakes and (512) Pecan Porter Lamingtons.

She has mentioned (on Twitter) to me before her (512) Pecan Porter Drunken German Chocolate cupcakes. But what the hell is a lamington? I feel stupid. Don't bother googling it (I know you are about to). Just click here.

Anyway, I am looking forward to having one of those cupcakes in one hand and a pecan porter in the other.
